While enroute Jamaica for one last port call before turning the 30 year old patrol boat over to the shipyard to be made into razor blades, the Captain and crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Staten Island stumble across a semi-submersible submarine on its way from Colombia to Haiti.
Onboard is something far more valuable to the Cartel than the tons of pure cocaine that fills the subs cargo hold.
And they want it back.
Thomas (Tom) Morkan is originally from Simsbury, Connecticut and the youngest of six children.
Following his graduation from Simsbury High, Tom attended Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire where he was very active in his fraternity, The King Edward Society, and far less so as a Business student.
Shortly after graduation (a year), Tom joined the United States Coast Guard where he would serve almost three decades.
Upon retirement from the military, he became a civil servant working for both the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Department of Transportation.
A twenty eight plus year veteran of the United States Coast Guard, Tom enlisted in May of 1991 and attended Basic Training (aka "Boot Camp") at Cape May New Jersey.
After graduation, he attended Electronics Technician (ET) training and became a Petty Officer Third Class.
Tom applied and was accepted into Officer Candidate School and in July of 1993 was commissioned as an Ensign.
After receiving his commission, Tom served at various units, both sea and land, and retired in 2019 at the rank of Captain.
